Environment
At Island Eggs, we are committed to being stewards of the environment and reducing our environmental footprint. We have a number of initiatives underway that we are very proud of as a company, including:
- LED lighting conversions which reduced energy consumption within the grading station and offices.
- Waste diversion
- Working with the local company BioFlame for alternative ways to heat water within the plant to reduce C02 emissions
Community
Island Eggs believes in giving back to the communities in which we do business. We support local community programs and initiatives, such as:
- On-going donation of eggs to several organizations including:
- Providence Farm
- Chemainus Harvest House
- Local Churches
- $5,000 donation to the Red Cross – BC Fires Appeal in the summer of 2021
- Actively support Canadian Environmental week including employee fundraising; past donations have gone to Canadian Wildlife Federation and Cowichan Cat Rescue
- Participation in shoreline clean-ups; sites have included local beaches and rivers
- Participation in Pink Shirt Day
- On-going support for local chapters of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada including a Team entry in the annual ‘Bowl for Kids Sake’ event.
- Local SPCA through annual employee cupcake fundraiser
- Yearly collection and donation of food to local food banks
- Support for the 89.7 Juice FM ‘Stuff the Truck’ campaign; purchased a $500 pallet of food every year for the past 3 years running
- Donation for Orange Shirt Day and the “Every Child Matters” initiative
